![]() About Our HorsesAt this time we have 11 horses at the ranch. Some are not safe for the children to ride yet...We start our equine training in the early spring. About half of our horses are young and have not been under saddle yet. Some of the other horses that are at the ranch we are continuing to work them through their abuse issues, in building their trust again with humans. The training progress of each horse is carefully documented. They are evaluated weekly as to when it is safe for the children to begin riding them. Equine Training ProgramOur focus in working with the horses is very delicate at times, keeping in mind that some of them have come from abusive backgrounds. It is important to us to bring them back slowly to restore their mental as well as their physical health. Our head trainer works with the assistant trainers. We train and play with our horses using Parelli's Natural Horsemanship methods. Our beginning steps with the horses involve doing a lot of groundwork which is a priority. People that are interested in working in the equine training program will be interviewed and asked to serve time first to learn the day to day operations of the ranch. We would like people to understand and be dedicated to the focus of the ranch as a whole and what its purpose is in healing children and broken horses. This training period time may vary according to each individual's talents and dedication. The equine team will assist in working along side in teaching the horse training policies that we have instituted at the ranch. There is also a probationary period for volunteers that wish to go through the horse training course. If approved and there is need they will be asked to come on board with the team. ![]() Russ and Wendy Krook
